We would like to Welcome Arpita Sharma as our esteemed speaker for Global Testing Retreat #ATAGTR2019

Arpita Sharma is from a small but popular city Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, Like any ambitious but compassionate girl she dreamt about m loving to a metropolitan city (Such as Chennai) and experience the fast paced life. Eventually the moment arrived when she got job offer from Cognizant. Initially, you do not really give much thought on what you actually want, what you are good at but she was clear right from the start what she actually wanted to do in her professional career.

Testing is something that excites her in numerous ways. It is like how bunch of engineers carefully assemble a Formula 1 Car, continually working to improve the performance and more importantly the reliability of the car.

Arpita Sharma is our esteemed speaker for #ATAGTR2019.

Arpita Sharma will be taking a Game Session on  18 levels * 54 blocks, Don’t let the tower fall. Jenga Analogy for API Automation Testing in Agile. – Game” on Day 2

We had posted some questions to Arpita as a part of her #ATAMyStory

1. Why should someone choose testing as a career? or What does testing really mean to you?

As a tester, I have luxury to be a part of product life cycle right from the inception .It is similar to how mother zebra teaches her kids stand up and walk to the next moment he is born. Because if he does not there is a constant threat of he being eaten by Lion of the jungle. We as a tester hold the same responsibility of improving the quality of the software, protect it from any threats, make sure the software is developed and enhanced in the right areas. For me, testing is the only roles that allows you to contribute during various steps involved with the product life cycle. Testing not only means V-V (Verification – Verification) but also improves to usability, improve the performance, improve the scalability, reduce manual effort, fill requirement gaps and provide more insights on non-functional requirements.

2. While practice makes all of us perfect, share an everyday practice that has made things better for you at work.

I have a habit of maintaining two documents. Once documents is about performance goals, the task that I need to perform aligned with my overall expectation. The other document is about my career goals, the task that I need to perform aligned with my long – term objectives. Before I start my day, I collect a stock of my work I finished until yesterday end of the day and tasks I need to work on current day. This helps in keeping a close watch on my activities and understand how they align to my performance or career goals.

3. The most challenging bug or issue that I have found and learnings from it? Or the most challenging testing task that I have done and how I accomplished the same

During one of my project releases that happened last year, there was a requirement to develop a new feature. We left serious gaps in our regression scripts, as the product owner was new to our team. Fortunately, it was a showstopper. I requested for daily catch up with the product owner at least for initial few weeks to completely understand the intention of product owner, identify, and fill the gaps in business requirements.

4. Anything else you want to share

Let me think! I consider myself as a budding nutritionist. I am very particular about my fitness. Soon I developed interest in how my body responds to what I eat and drink throughout the day. I read a lot about different types of diets, managing macro – nutrients in each type of food I eat. I hope that one day I will start my own venture in the same line. Fingers crossed.
