We had posted some questions to Gowtam as a part of his #ATAMyStory

1. Why should someone choose testing as a career? Or what does testing really mean to you?

Software Testing is about more than just making sure that the program works. The ultimate purpose of software testing is not to find bugs, but to make the product superior. As a tester, you are contributing to improvements of the product’s quality, and therefore playing an important role in a company.

I define testing as a challenging and satisfying role (“My work helps to deliver quality products to clients”) and as a tester, you should have good analytical and communication skills and should understand the customer to deliver the required quality products.

2. While practice makes all of us perfect, share an everyday practice that has made things better for you at work

I believe in Coordination and Collaboration in the team which will help in delivering things in a better fashion. Maintaining a healthy work environment in the team by coordinating each other and working collaboratively across different phases of the project will help in achieving a better productivity. I always try to maintain this in my team which helped me in achieving the targets in any situation.

3. The most challenging bug or issue that I have found and learnings from it ? Or The most challenging testing task that I have done and how I accomplished the same

As a tester, every day is a challenging day as we need to fulfill the customer expectations and deliver the product with utmost quality along with all the required test artifacts. To maintain this, we need to continuously communicate and raise the Risks/issues on the right time to the respective project stakeholders and follow-up things till they are addressed/closed.

4. Anything else you want to share

I feel communication plays a vital role in the software testing and as a gatekeeper to the product’s quality; it is a tester’s responsibility to ensure customer expectations are met. Tester’s job is always a destructive work and his ultimate target should focus in breaking the system by covering all the positive and negative scenarios. Tester should always think from the business and customer perspective. In addition, he has to closely work with all the respective teams and raise his voice which will help in fulfilling the customer’s expectations.
