CP TDM – Hands on Test Data Management Approach

As Tester, Test lead& Manager, managing test data has been a big challenge. Some of the challenges have beenLack of access to Pre-production environments, lack of user privileges, lack of knowledge of test data tools andtdm processes/ best practices. It often results into not having correct representational data, not able to execute all end to end scenarios, poor data Quality, obsolete data resulting into test execution delays & defects leaking to next stages. It impacts Test Quality, schedules and impacting project cost. It also results into defect leakages next levels and even to Production. Add to regulations like GDPR and more, which prevents sharing of data across borders.

Unfortunately, there are very less training courses dealing with Test Data Subject as a part of Software Development Life cycle.

I attended CP-TDM course recently. Surprisingly this course not only gave a good insight about test data management processes, but also gave us a hands-on knowledge of tools like Data Veil, Mockaroo, Mockup Data & Solix. Course also has hands on in installing DBMS tools, loading data and working with the data sets as a part of their practical’s. Course also gave us some knowledge on DBMS basics, database keys, constraints and DDL, DML commands before the masking exercises. Masking was followed by validation as well. Course also gave us good insights about upcoming regulations like GDPR and many more highlighting the PII and critical fields. Below diagram suggests typical refresh and masking process flow which is explained in detail in the course.

It has really made me comfortable to take up any assignment in future about Test Data Management. I will recommend this to each software professional.
